We’re drilled to perform

The drilling world is a high-pressure business. Every metre drilled costs money, so the faster the holes can be bored the better.

Higher pressure up to 30 Bar (435 psi)

It’s a general rule that drilling at higher pressure makes drilling faster, and allows you to go deeper. Higher pressure requires more free air delivery (FAD) for the hammer, but also more FAD to remove the cuttings more efficiently. Atlas Copco has developed a new generation of compressors that combine efficiency, reliability and safety. Superior productivity is gained by increasing speed, but at an optimal cost. The right combination of FAD and pressure, a perfect choice of engine and newly designed air-ends together with special design features make every drilling performance a profitable one.

Efficient and effective drilling

Geothermal drilling

A borehole whose purpose is to recover the heat energy that is stored in the groundwater. The second law of thermodynamics is applicable for ground water heat recovery especially in countries where the temperature differential is substantial. During the winter the conventional heating bills are reduced. The system also works in the summer to provide cooling. The ground water in the drill hole retains the same temperature irrespective of the season.

An energy well is economic, pro-environmental and reliable.

Exploration drilling

Drilling is the culmination of the mineral exploration process where the subsurface geometry, is defined. Drilling provides most of the information for the final evaluation of a prospect and will ultimately determine if the prospect is mineable.

Geochemical analyses of the drill samples provide the basis for determining the average grade of the ore deposit. Careful logging of the drill samples helps delineate the geometry, calculate the volume of ore, and provides important structural details.

Oil & Gas

Hydrocarbons (oil & gas) are extracted from the earth deposits via deep wells. These wells are drilled onshore and offshore.

Oil & Gas is an important source of energy for vehicles, power plants, homes and industry.

During well development, compressed air is also used to accelerate the rate of gas burning (flairing).

Coal Bed Methane

Coal Bed Methane supplies natural gas; a clean-burning energy source well suited as a boiler fuel, vehicle fuel, and for heating residences as well al large structures. CBM is a non-conventional hydrocarbon, a natural gas containing virtually 100% methane produced from coal seam reservoirs. It is often produced at shallow depths and often with large volumes of water of variable quality. It is produced through a borehole that allows gas and water to be produced to the surface.

Natural Gas is used as a source of energy in homes, industry, power plants, vehicles and agriculture.
   
   

Nitrogen

Low and high pressure gaseous nitrogen generating systems that are suitable for underbalanced drilling operations, pipeline purging projects, plant turnarounds, and workover operations on existing wells.

These systems are best used for remote locations where the cost of delivered liquid nitrogen (LIN) is high, when the scheduling and delivery of nitrogen takes a long time, or when the requirement calls for continuous mobility. A job will not be terminated prematurely while waiting on a nitrogen bulk transport for supplemental LIN.

Nitrogen is typically used because of its relatively low generation cost, scale control and low potential for downhole fires.
